This is an online interactive magical calculating Gender Traits Test (aka Bem Test)!
Disclaimer: This test purports to decide how masculine or feminine you are, based on the paper linked above. The paper is interesting, as it took a bunch of people (male and female) and asked them which characteristics were preferred, and this is the result. I am very wary of any assigning gender like this, but our society has decided that some characteristics are "masculine" and others are "feminine", and if we avoid assigning those to "male" and "female", this test may or may not be interesting, but hopefully won't be too harmful.
This is a dual-purpose form! If you feel so inclined, you can print out things and fill stuff out and use a calculator, OR you can just pick boxes and hit the magic button. The people over at the original test evidently have a very limited definition of "interactive", which consists of choosing numbers from boxes. Mine is more comprehensive, which means that this page will take the fantastically complex step of adding and subtracting numbers for you, and then, on top of that, choosing one of five labels, based on that final number! I know, I know, I am a wizard of modern technology, but please don't let it frighten you. It's not entirely witchcraft.
Answer the questions as to how the term describes you best according to the following scale:
1 = Never or almost never true | 5 = Often true |
2 = Usually not true | 6 = Usually true |
3 = Sometimes but infrequently true | 7 = Always or almost always true |
4 = Occasionally true |
SCORING BELOW. DON'T READ THIS UNTIL YOU'VE TAKEN THE TEST. YOU'LL SPOIL IT.
Okay, filled in all the boxes? If not, you're just hurting yourself. Proceed if you like.
